Introduction

We’re looking for one or two website designers with skills in user experience design to contract with us on several projects over the next year and beyond. Our commitment to equity and inclusion prompts us to issue this formal request for information, so that we can advertise this opportunity and consider an array of interested contractors.

About us

Northwest Resource Associates is a nonprofit child welfare agency. We envision every young person having family that nurtures their growth and potential. We work toward this vision by designing and delivering programs and technology that empower youth, strengthen families, and improve child welfare systems. More than four decades old, we are headquartered in Seattle, WA. We have programs in Alaska, Oregon, and Washington in addition to regional and national projects.

Equity and inclusion are priorities across all programs at Northwest Resource Associates, and we are committed to welcoming everyone. We seek staff and contractor diversity in ability, age, caste, ethnicity, gender expression and identity, primary language, privilege, race, religion. We are recognized as an affirming agency by the Human Rights Campaign.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for one or two web designers to become part of our team on a project-by-project basis, helping us design websites, create design systems, and enhance existing websites and applications. We value user experience and accessibility.

Our ideal candidate will have experience in:

  • Website and interface design
  • User experience design
  • Working in an Agile environment with software development teams
  • Accessibility standards as defined in the 18F Accessibility Guide
  • Creating design systems and templates
  • Working with frontend frameworks such as Bootstrap or Tailwind.
  • Working with the team and end users to identify requirements
  • Producing wireframes and mock-ups
  • Producing design assets
  • Working with nonprofit or government agencies

More about the opportunity

Over the next year, we would like to work with one or two website/UX designers to:

  • Enhance the AdoptUSKids photolisting application, website, and blogs, found at www.adoptuskids.org.
  • Create a design system for the Northwest Adoption Exchange website: www.nwae.org.
  • Make site improvements to www.nwae.org.

You’d be the design resource on our product-development teams, not the developer.

A few of the projects will be on a strict timeline; others will be more flexible. We see ourselves needing about 30% of a person’s time over the next yearsome months more, some months less.

Our teams work in a loosely hybrid environment, working remotely most of the time and from our downtown Seattle office once or twice per month and more often as needed. We prefer but do not require local contractors.

Teams throughout our agency are fun and respectful. We balance high standards with reasonable expectations of each other. We intend to be a good client, and we welcome feedback that will make our relationship stronger.
